Technology Ties Science Lesson Together for Second Graders

Second graders at Monsignor Slade were recently studying animal life cycles.They studied insect life cycles, specifically that of butterflies. Mrs. Knupp’s students learned about living things and investigated the different stages that butterflies experience in their life cycle. Then they compared the life cycles of butterflies and humans.

To reinforce their lessons in science class, Mrs. Knupp assigned stories about the butterfly life cycle on an app called Epic! The children accessed Epic! using iPads. The app also engaged them in games and quizzes related to the stories.

Mrs. Knupp enjoys using Epic! In the classroom since it allows the class to track the number of books they have read as a whole, awards points, and unlocks achievements when they reach reading milestones.
