Morning Message: May 29

On Sunday we will celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost.  Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he told his disciples that he would send the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen them to carry on his mission.  This promise comforted the disciples and gave them hope.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.

Jesus said to his disciples, “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.  You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning.  I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.  When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.  He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you.  All that the Father has is mine.”

Think about this silently in your heart.  To testify means “to give evidence” or “bear witness.”  How do you testify to your faith in Jesus?

Did you know that we can have a power within us that will guide us in our life? That power comes from the Holy Spirit.  When Jesus knew that it was time for him to leave the earth and return to Heaven, he called his disciples together to teach them about what they could expect when he was gone.  He told them that when he left, the Holy Spirit would come to be their guide.  When we decide to follow Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes into our life.  We can't see him, but we know that he is there because we can feel his power and see him working in our life.  We can see the Holy Spirit guiding us in our daily life and leading us to the place God wants us to be.

You and I have to stay close to God before the power of His Holy Spirit can work in our lives.  The closer we are to God, the more we feel the power of the Holy Spirit working in our life.

Dear Lord, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to guide us in the way you want us to go.  Help us to stay close to you, so that we can feel the power of your Holy Spirit in our life.  Holy Spirit, walk with us each day and remind us to testify our love for Jesus by our kindness and fairness to others.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
