Lenten Service Project Benefits Operation Mato Grosso
Monsignor Slade Catholic School collects dry goods during a Lenten Service project to benefit a Peruvian school named Lord of Pomallucay, which is the only Catholic school in Yungay, Peru. The Slade community has supported this school and surrounding community via the mission developed by Operation Mato Grosso. Over the past five years, the students and other donors have contributed school supplies and basic food items. During Lent, our community makes a focused-effort to continue this mission work and collect food items to benefit those in need at our sister school in Peru.
The food collected is used at the mission school, and additionally at soup kitchens, local hospitals, and to support those in need in the town of Yungay, Peru. Grade levels have different assignments. While it is very generous of families to donate bulk-sized items, single- or family-sized items are appreciated making it easier to distribute throughout the area.
We are collecting six staple food items. The collection takes place from February 22-April 5, 2023.
